Home Tuition

Home tuition is the practice of educating children at home rather than in school. Many parents will provide their children with home tuition themselves or hire the services of a professional tutor. There are many statistics that show children who have received home tuition will generally perform better in exams and standardised tests than their school educated counterparts. However, despite these statistics many people believe that home tuition can have a negative effect on a child’s development, particularly on the development of their social skills due to a lack of contact with people their own age. People opposed to home tuition for children often cite this and will argue that schools teach children much more than they learn from their lessons. The inconsistent academic standards that can result from home tuition is  also one the negative aspects that is cited by those opposed to home tuition.

Parents may choose to educate their children through home tuition for a number of reasons. One of the most common reasons for educating children with home tuition is that the family lives very far away from a local school or in a particularly isolated area. These people have the options of sending their children to a boarding school rather than opting for home tuition, however many people are unable to afford this expense. Families who frequently move house to different areas of the country or even the world may also opt to educate their children with home tuition too.
